Holding a real estate license in New Jersey does not make you a REALTOR®. To earn the distinction of REALTOR®, a real estate agent must take additional steps and abide by the strict REALTOR® Code of Ethics developed by the National Association of REALTORS®.

This Code establishes a standard of behavior that exceeds legal requirements, ensuring REALTORS® honor and respect clients’ interests. The term REALTOR® is a registered collective membership mark identifying a real estate professional who is a member of the National Association of REALTORS®, the world’s largest trade association.

The REALTOR® “R” logo is a federally registered mark licensed exclusively to members of NAR. It represents high standards of professional conduct.

We offer three types of membership:

  • Designated REALTOR® Membership: For sole proprietors, partners, or corporate officers with an active New Jersey broker’s license. Must be active in the real estate profession, with no record of unprofessional conduct or recent/pending bankruptcy.
  • REALTOR® Membership: For individuals with an active real estate license who are employed by or affiliated with a Designated REALTOR®. The office must be open to the public for real estate or appraisal business.
  • Affiliate Membership: For individuals in businesses allied to real estate who do not hold an active real estate license. Affiliates should be interested in real estate-related information and align with GSCBOR’s objectives.

You can learn more here about GSCBOR Memberships.

Affiliate members are local business professionals with an interest in the real estate industry. They offer services to our REALTOR® Members and their clients. Affiliates can include mortgage professionals, appraisers, title companies, home inspectors, builders, pest control services, and various contractors.

They are crucial to the strength of the Board and sponsor many REALTOR® meetings and events. They attend functions and contribute to the networking strength of our association.

Discover all the benefits for Affiliates here.

First, your broker must be a member of the Association. Next, complete an application and attach the appropriate payment, including the application fee. You can find the application and fee structure on our Membership Page.

Once your application is processed, you will receive instructions to attend the New Member Orientation Program, including the Code of Ethics Training. This Orientation program is mandatory for new members and explains the benefits of REALTOR® membership.

As a primary member of the Gloucester Salem Counties Board of REALTORS®, you are automatically a member of the NJR and NAR. The annual dues you pay to GSCBOR are allocated to local, state, and national portions. GSCBOR acts as an agent for these dues collections.

Membership fees run on a calendar year. Dues invoices are sent electronically via email to all REALTORS®, usually the first week in November. It is important to keep your email address current and notify us of any changes.

The Broker is responsible for ensuring that all licensees within their office remit their annual dues payment before the deadline.

No, dues must be paid in full. We use an e-commerce system that automatically splits and disperses the annual dues to NAR, NJR, and GSCBOR. Dues are not refundable. Payments received by check are sent to National and State immediately upon posting.

Your Primary Board is the board through which you pay your State, National, and local dues. Any board you join after your primary board is considered a secondary board. You only pay the local dues portion for secondary boards but receive the same benefits.
If you are a member in good standing with another Board/Association of REALTORS®, fill out our REALTOR® application. The application fee is waived, but a $25 transfer fee applies. Submit the completed application, a letter of good standing from your current Board/Association, and the transfer fee.

No, licensing inquiries and regulatory matters should be directed to the New Jersey Real Estate Commission at 609-292-7053.

NRDS stands for National REALTOR® Database System and is your REALTOR® Identification number. You will keep this number as long as you are a REALTOR® member, regardless of the agency or state where you conduct business.

You can find your NRDS number on your yearly NAR membership card, on the back label of NAR publications, or here. Keep your NRDS number handy, as it is used for logging into many websites and services.
